DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
“A breath of fresh air… It not only works as potent commentary on Indigenous heritage, autonomy and experiences, but as grippimg, dynaamic, and thunderous music in and of itself. All that without an ounce of overshowing.” – JazzTimes
=0D=0A=

Hailing from Abenaki First Nation at Odanak, award-winning bassist/vocalist/songwriter and rising star Mali Obomsawin (they/she) possesses an expansive background in American roots, rock, and jazz. Obomsawin’s debut album Sweet Tooth has received international acclaim since its release in 2022. This latest album blends Wabanaki stories passed down in Obomsawin’s own family, with tunes addressing contemporary Indigenous life, colonization, continuity, love, and rage. They are also a composer/arranger, having scored upcoming film "We Are The Warriors,” in collaboration with Red Sky Performance and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Palaver Strings. Beyond the stage. Obomsawin is a community organizer and advocate for Indigenous rights, environmental justice and landback. In 2020, Obomsawin co-founded Bomazeen Land Trust, the first ever Wabanaki land trust, where they currently serve as executive director. Don’t miss Obomsawin and their quartet as they make their TD JazzFest debut! Evan Woodle drums, Mali Obomsawin bass/vocals, Magdalena Abrego guitar, Allison Burik reeds
