SUMMARY:Starblanket making workshop
URL:http://www.harbourliving.ca/event/starblanket-making-workshop/
LOCATION:All Nations Wellness Centre :: 5945 Riverbottom Road West Lake Cowichan,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Joanne Ward is a master craftswoman, who is generously sharing her knowledge of star quilts with people. In this two day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to make a Star Quilt, and will create their own lap sized quilt. This will leave them with the knowledge to create larger quilts when they return home to their own sewing rooms.

In the mid 1800's sewing became a refined skill to First Nations women, and the "Morning Star Quilt" was born. Recognizing the star as sacred is a respected and longstanding tradition, inherited from the Ancestors.
=0D=0A=

The morning star promises a new beginning, a new day dawning. Standing between darkness (ignorance) and light (knowledge), the morning star leads to understanding. The combination of newer types of fabric and traditional beliefs makes the star quilt a strong symbol of unity.

The workshop will be held at All Nations Wellness Center which is located in the traditional Skutz (meaning falls in Hul'qumi'num) area of the Cowichan Valley. Skutz Falls is a beautiful provincial park full of wild life, wild flowers, and healthy forest. You can enjoy a swim in the Cowichan River, many walking paths, and find a quiet spot to be still.

The workshop will cost $200. Workshops include camping on site, or shared accommodation in our yurt, with access to indoor bathroom facilities including a shower.

If you are interested in registering, please email me at rebeccachristofferson@gmail.com
