"It's Panto Time Again"
Yes, we are fast approaching that time of year and preparations for St Luke�s
Players� 5th annual panto, �Robinson Crusoe�, are well under way. Rehearsals
ring out with the familiar sounds of �Look behind you�; �Oh yes it is, oh no it�s
not�, popular songs, dancing, jokes to groan to, local references, and plenty of
action for the whole family! The stage is groaning under the weight of 31 cast
members, with more than 50 other volunteers working on creating the colourful
costumes and sets, finding and building props, designing the lighting and sound,
publicity, concession, and all of the 101 other tasks that are involved with such a
production.
The exciting, adventure-packed, story follows Robinson Crusoe, his Mum,
girlfriend Polly and crew of the Mary Rose on their voyage to Tobago in the hope
of finding hidden treasure. Watch Robinson pit his wits against the villainous
Blackpatch, Jack Boot and their band of bloodthirsty pirates who want the
treasure for themselves. On Tobago we meet Friday and the Islanders, led by
their Queen who want to protect the treasure. How will Robinson deal with this
dilemma, not to mention the Grunting Gorilla! Don�t worry; everything ends
happily ever after - just like all traditional pantos!
The show opens on Boxing Day in St Luke�s Hall at 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Road
and runs for ten matinee and evening performances.
Tickets go on sale on November 15 at Amica at Douglas House at 50 Douglas
Street; Ivy�s Books in Oak Bay Village; Petals Plus Florist at 3749 Shelbourne
Street and Russell Books at 734 Fort Street. You are encouraged to buy your
tickets early as last year we were completely sold out two weeks before the
panto opened.
