As part of Ask the Mountains at the Campbell River Art Gallery, sound artist Jenni Schine will lead a soundwalk starting at the Campbell River Art Gallery (1235 Shoppers Row).

=0D=0A=A soundwalk is a silent walk along a planned route to experience the location’s ambience and underlying rhythms.
=0D=0A=As we walk through familiar places, we inscribe our own stories onto the routes that we make.
=0D=0A=What do these everyday places sound like?
=0D=0A=Come explore the personal and public sounds of downtown Campbell River's soundscape. It’s a musical-sonic adventure that reveals the banal into the extraordinary!
=0D=0A=Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for an hour-long walk that will take place rain or shine.
=0D=0A=A 30-minute discussion will follow the walk.
=0D=0A=While this workshop is free for anyone to attend, please recognize that it does cost money to put on these types of events, so if you’d prefer to choose to pay $5 for your ticket during the registration process, know that it will be put to good use in creating future programming like this.
=0D=0A=About your facilitator:
=0D=0A=As a sound artist, Jenni Schine (she/her) hopes to make art that is ecologically accountable and builds relationships in a reciprocal manner. She is a big fan of public engagement and has extended her work into art installations, film, radio, and soundscape compositions.
=0D=0A=As an educator, she uses art and teaching as a conduit to connect artists with scientists. Schine is a 2021/22 Action Canada Fellow and serves as the SoundWorks Associate Editor of the BC Studies Journal and as a Director of the Western Front artist-run-centre. She holds a BA in Anthropology from UVic and a MA in Communication from SFU. A third generation Vancouverite, Schine grew up in the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil- Waututh) Nations (Vancouver, BC), where she is currently based.
=0D=0A="At the heart of my work is the act of listening," she says. "I want to activate my audience's ears to change how we hear the world around us. I do this through soundwalks, sonic explorations, and audio storytelling. In my work, I use field-recording and interviewing methods to collect audio material in situ and compose soundscape compositions that highlight sonic discoveries. My experimental audio documentaries often interweave sounds and stories with a subtle approach to sound processing.
=0D=0A="We cannot underestimate the act of listening. I believe that the principles that are going to create change in this world are the basic values of respect and deep listening. This has profound effects on how we perceive, interact, and engage with our environment, our community, and ourselves."
