LOCATION:The Vault Cafe :: 499 Wallace Nanaimo,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The Vault Café is proud to host “Singled Out” fundraiser for the Nanaimo and Area Land Trust (NALT) on Saturday, March 22nd. Four local DJ’s will join forces for an evening of spinning records from era’s gone by to current offerings. The event is focused on the classic vinyl format the 45! A bit of a record free for all if you like. DJ’s from the Void Collective lead the charge. Jeremy Van Wyck and Martine Menard are preeminent collectors of the format and are well known in the vinyl community. The Black Dot Duo of Dave Read and Jack Tieleman provide the second volley of the evening.
=0D=0A=

The event was conceived when Martine DJ’ed a recent record show in Courtenay with only singles. The four realized a night of only singles would not only be a fun event and excuse to dig out some great records but an opportunity to support a local agency like NALT.
=0D=0A=

The 45 has a deep and rich history in the canons of popular music. From an inexpensive way to get music to the masses both through retail and radio to the punk rock movement where the aesthetic could be controlled to reflect the message. Of course, the format has welcomed every style and genre over the past decades. You can still find old 45’s in abundance and cheap if you dare look. Local record stores and on line listings will provide you with all the singles you ever need! However, if the collector in you wants a deeper dive singles are the go to place. The first Elvis single on Sun Records commands a $1000 while Nirvana’s debut 45 “Love Buzz” will set you back a mere $10,000! Come see what the DJ’s pull from their crates!
