Sing with the Symphony next year!
=0D=0A=

The Vancouver Island Symphony is holding AUDITIONS for two of its Children's Choirs that perform with the Symphony. Patricia Plumley, VIS Choral Conductor will be holding AUDITIONS at the following schools in June: Forest Park, Hammond Bay, Departure Bay, McGirr, Randerson Ridge, Mountain View, Quarterway, Georgia Avenue. Students need to sing a song that they love and they can come in groups up to 5 people; or do the audition on their own.
=0D=0A=

Auditions take 10 minutes and it is a fun and encouraging experience for children. For school auditions speak to your music teacher and for the audition on Monday June 15 at the Centre for the Arts, call the Symphony Office at 250-754-0177.

Two years ago the Vancouver Island Symphony (VIS) created a new three part integrated music education program in partnership with School District 68. All students in Grade 4 would have an opportunity to come and see the Vancouver island Symphony perform live at The Port Theatre and in Grade 5 they could sing on stage in the "Fabulous Fives" Choir with the Symphony. A new show entitled My Symphony was written by award winning children's entertainer, Rick Scott along with Valley Hennell and the musical scores were written by Nanaimo resident Nico Rhodes. The third part of this music education program is Send a Symphony Musician to School Program where the VIS sends an orchestra musician into every school before the My Symphony show so students will learn more about what will happen at the symphony.

This June, the VI Symphony has decided to take the auditions on the road to as many schools allowing more students to participate in the Choir.
=0D=0A=

Says Patricia Plumley, "Once we created a Grade 5 Choir, we had children that wanted to keep singing and so last year we added a Symphonic Children's Choir for Grades 6-8 students that want to keep singing. This coming year is a special year as the Choirs will perform in Nanaimo Sings! Choral Festival in October and the Children's Choir will be singing at the largest show the VI Symphony has ever produced - Carmina Burana in April 2016 with a 70 member orchestra, 100 member adult choir and our VIS Children's Choir - it will be a fabulous experience for everyone."

For more information: 250-754-0177
