Dr Adams is the Director of the Division of Aboriginal People’s Health in the Faculty of Medicine, UBC and the Aboriginal Health Physician Advisor for the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport for the province of British Columbia. Perhaps best known as Thomas Builds-The-Fire from the Miramax film Smoke Signals, he is currently developing a show for APTN – “The Dr. Evan Adams Show – The Art of Lifestyle & Health” – that will shoot this summer.=0D=0A=

Dr Adams will be joined by Nanaimo's AVIVA Womyn's Chorus, who will entertain guests with songs from the social justice movement, women's movement and gay liberation movement of the 70s, early feminist pioneers, show tunes and several cabaret numbers. Formed in 2005, the choir’s primary focus is to provide a social and musical venue for lesbians and their allies to gather together in safety and community, working towards a common goal of singing together in public. =0D=0A=

The Positive Space Alliance, which created the endowment fund in 2009, is working to raise $10, 000 to support gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, two-spirited queer and questioning students at VIU. The Positive Space campaign seeks to raise awareness of diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity and to challenge the patterns of silence that continue to marginalize GLBTTQ individuals. =0D=0A=

The fundraiser is April 7, 7pm at the Royal Arbutus Room, Building 300 at VIU in Nanaimo. Tickets are $40 (non-students) and $20 (students) and are available at Red Martini Grill, VIU Bookstore (Nanimo and Cowichan locations) and the Student Union Office.
