must survive a lottery to get a spot in Kindergarten or Grade 1 French Immersion. Now, a=0D=0A=
new option is added to start French Immersion in Grade 6. No French experience required.=0D=0A=
Enriching bilingual experience within a supportive environment with lots of humour. All=0D=0A=
students are welcome.=0D=0A=

In British Columbia, there are 2 types of French Immersion:=0D=0A=
- Early French Immersion begins in either Kindergarten or Grade 1=0D=0A=
- Late French Immersion begins in Grade 6 and will be offered in September 2014=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
In the 2011 “French Immersion Review “ of the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District's French=0D=0A=
Immersion program delivery recommended to offer Late French Immersion as an option to=0D=0A=
students and families. Its a popular option in Parksville and Victoria, among other places.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
French Immersion follows the same curriculum as the regular program except all learning and=0D=0A=
teaching is in French. It is fully funded and free to join.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
In year one of Late French Immersion (Grade 6), students do all their learning completely in=0D=0A=
French. Their French develops so quickly that they integrate into Early French Immersion=0D=0A=
classes by Grade 8.=0D=0A=

Late French Immersion is suitable for virtually any student regardless of background or=0D=0A=
achievement level.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
French is good for your mind. Studies show that a multilingual brain is nimbler, quicker, better=0D=0A=
able to deal with ambiguities, resolve conflicts, and that bilingual students averaged higher=0D=0A=
scores in cognitive performance on tests and had greater attention focus, distraction=0D=0A=
resistance, decision-making, judgment and responsiveness to feedback.=0D=0A=

Late French Immersion is a program of choice available to every family=0D=0A=
