DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: Numerous populations of top marine predators in the North Pacific and Bering Sea have experienced severe declines in the last several decades. Controlled studies with managed populations of animals in the laboratory have played an increasingly important role in trying to understand the root causes of these changes in the wild. For almost 20 years, Dr. David Rosen has led UBC’s Marine Mammal Energetics and Nutrition Laboratory in investigations into the declines of Steller sea lions and northern fur seals in Alaska by conducting studies with trained, captive animals. This unique research has provided insight into the energetics, nutrition, and=0D=0A=
development in these species, and has provided valuable contributions to formulating species management plans for their recovery.=0D=0A=
