The THIRD Nanaimo Repair Café will take place on October 4th from 11am-3pm at the Christ Community Church, 2221 Bowen Rd. This event will be part of the Nanaimo Zero Waste Conference.
=0D=0A=What do you do with a broken toaster? With a chair when the leg has come loose? Or with a jumper full of moth holes? Toss it? No way! You can repair it at the Repair Café! Nanaimo's second Repair Café, a local non-profit initiative, will take place on October 4th from 11am-3pm at the Christ Community Church, 2221 Bowen Rd.
=0D=0A=We throw away vast amounts of stuff in today's society. Even things with almost nothing wrong, which could get a new lease on life after a simple repair. The trouble is, lots of people have forgotten that they can repair things themselves or they no longer know how. The Repair Café is changing all that! You can repair it at the Repair Café! The Repair Café teaches people to see their possessions in a new light. And, once again, to appreciate their value. The Repair Café helps change people’s mindset. This is essential to kindle people’s enthusiasm for a sustainable society. But most of all, the Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is. Why don’t you give it a go? There's 2 ways to participate. 1. You can bring in a broken item and get help repairing it. Bring any (easily portable – no dishwashers!) household items you’d like repaired and we’ll help you get it in working order. All repairs/assistance are free of charge (although donations are happily accepted). 2. If you like repairing things yourself and if you enjoy helping others, we would like to invite you to join us as a volunteer fixer for the Repair Café. We are looking for people who are skilled at fixing household items, from appliances, electronics, furniture to clothes, you name it! If you have no repairing experience but want to contribute in some other way (manning the registration table, helping with setting up, baking cookies, you name it!), we'd love to hear from you as well. This is a free event for everyone. Not only can you support your community by sharing your repair know-how, but you’ll also meet others who enjoy fixing things too. Have a coffee while you repair and teach and chat with people from the community. Who knows, in the process you may even make some new friends!
