URL:http://www.harbourliving.ca/event/photography-the-anthropocene186/
LOCATION:Vancouver Island School of Art :: 302-733 Johnson St Victoria, V8W 3C7
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The term Anthropocene is used to define the current period of time during which human activities have impacted the environment enough to constitute a permanent and geological change. This course examines the effects of the Anthropocene through a series of lectures covering the shifting landscape and land use; including topics such as technology, pollution, waste, extraction, destruction and histories of conservation. These issues will be critically explored using examples of historical and contemporary photographers. The emphasis is on photography’s response to the rapidly changing planet. Assignments respond to the weekly class content and be reviewed during in-class critiques and group discussions. A portion of each class will be dedicated to post-production editing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. A basic understanding of how to use your own camera and how to upload images onto a computer is required.
