DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Join us at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 for our in-person lecture “Paving Paradise: The 5 W’s of Heritage Ethics.”
=0D=0A=

Thirty years ago, “heritage preservation” was a rallying cry and a significant focus for community action. Today, it seems to have been superseded by other pressing civic concerns.
=0D=0A=

Is fighting to preserve our built heritage now passé? Is saving interesting old buildings just a concern for a few built heritage advocates? Is it enough just to restore a front wall? Is Façadism an appropriate alternative to full restoration? Has the very word “heritage preservation” been hijacked by those who would prefer to debate it as a philosophical issue, rather than stand in front of bulldozers?
=0D=0A=

Nick Russell, heritage advocate and historical researcher, poses the Five W’s of Heritage Ethics: Who benefits from preservation? What are the alternatives? When is enough enough? Where should we focus our heritage preservation efforts? Why does preserving our built heritage matter? Bring your interest, concerns and questions about the future of built heritage preservation to our lecture with Nick Russell.
=0D=0A=

This is our first in-person lecture at Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum since early 2020. Seating is limited, so please reserve in advance by donation at https://tinyurl.com/2p8ysjwh.
=0D=0A=

All proceeds support the volunteer run and owned Ross Bay Villa Society. Masks are mandatory.
