Soprano Danika Loren and pianist Stéphane Mayer present a recital of their own compositions, along with works by Debussy and George Crumb, as part of a Canada-wide tour of their work.
=0D=0A=Both Danika and Stéphane are alumni of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio.
=0D=0A=As a performer, Danika Loren has played a wide variety of roles on the stage of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, and in concert halls across the country. She holds a master’s degree in Opera from the University of Toronto, and has studied with J. Patrick Raftery and Wendy Nielsen. As a composer, Danika has completed a songbook, First Fig, of 20 original songs set to text by North American female poets. She has also recently completed her first opera, an adaptation of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler.
=0D=0A=Pianist and composer Stéphane Mayer has served as a rehearsal pianist at the Canadian Opera Company and as a répétiteur for productions of The Marriage of Figaro and Ariadne auf Naxos (Opera NUOVA) and Don Giovanni (Opera McGill). He also participated in the presentation of two world premières, The Rocking Horse Winner (Tapestry Opera/Scottish Opera) and Ours (Opera on the Avalon). A graduate of McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, Stéphane has also worked as a vocal coach and accompanist at the University of Western Ontario. His music has been included in recitals at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheater at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and featured at The Future of Art Song Symposium at the University of Toronto.
