In this 3-hour workshop, we explore capturing our environment on paper. During the first part we focus on drawing what we see, rather than what we think we see and talk about some basics of plein-air.
=0D=0A=In the second part we approach what we see more freely in our drawings, by enhancing certain characteristics of the natural elements around us, thinking about how they speak to us, considering atmosphere and composition.
=0D=0A=Some materials will be provided but participants are also free to bring specific pens, pencils or paints they would like to work with, if they so wish.
=0D=0A=About your Facilitator:
=0D=0A=Sylvie Ringer is a Canadian-German artist based in Hamburg and on Malcolm Island, BC Canada. She graduated from the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg from the Department of Design in Illustration and Drawing.
=0D=0A=She has worked there as a drawing instructor since 2019. She also teaches workshops and lectures in design universities and art academies, with a focus on encouraging a non-judgmental and free creative process. She is also the co-founder of the International Achterhaus Residency Programm and Compassion Art Collective, dedicated to encouraging dialogue and de-stigmatization through art.
=0D=0A=She has spent many years realizing projects, collaborations, and exhibitions in and in-between Canada and Germany. In 2019 Kerber Verlag Berlin published Ringer’s monograph Crab, Rock,Stick, Loss, based on her year-long residency on Malcolm Island, BC.
=0D=0A=Sylvie has received numerous awards, grants, and stipends, among them a DAAD stipend in 2015, a project grant from the Ministry of Culture Hamburg ( Behörde für Kultur und Medien Hamburg ) 2018, a stipend from the Doris and Simon Otto Foundation in 2020. In 2021 her body of work, Singing Lands was acquired by the Government of Germany as part of the country's Federal Art Collection (Bundeskunstsammlung Deutschland ).
=0D=0A=She currently holds an 8-year studio grant at Künstlerhaus Sootbörn, funded by the City of Hamburg.
