DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Dedication of a magnificent six-foot marble sculpture of a medicine woman will be the highlight of the Mary Winspear Centre’s National Aboriginal Day celebrations.The piece by prominent Vancouver Island sculptor, Michel Beauvais, has been donated by the Winspear family which has a history of generously supporting the arts at the Centre.=0D=0A=
Visitors can watch Coast Salish carving demonstrations and children will enjoy taking part in traditional  games and crafts. Art by local First People's artists will be on display.  A welcoming ceremony at 5:30 pm will be followed by the unveiling and dedication of Beauvais’ unique statue. The ceremony will be attended by well-known local carvers, Charles Elliott and Doug LaFortune, who carved the four "House Posts," at the Centre’s entrance. These traditional totem poles represent the four bands on the Saanich Peninsula: the Tsawout, Tsartlip, Tseycum and Pauquchin. Come and learn more about First People’s culture!=0D=0A=
