New Orleans is coming to town to celebrate the inaugural Nanaimo International Jazz Festival September 15 to 17. For 3 days and nights Nanaimo’s downtown will be hopping with the beats and grooves of live jazz.
=0D=0A=The Festival will put Jazz in Diana Krall Plaza, as well as a ‘Jazz Krall’ in other downtown cafes and public spaces throughout the event. Traveling all the way from New Orleans is the John Ellis quintet “Double Wide” who will headline the Festival main attraction at the Port Theater Saturday night.
=0D=0A=There will be jazz goings-on for all ages, --- from 4 ticketed events to many FREE live performances occurring all weekend long. One of our favourites being the New Orleans-style “second line” parade happening at noon on Saturday. Sunny Side Up Blues & Gospel will kick off the Sunday morning program, and ending will be a final ‘Fly Finale’ Gala concert at the Port Theatre.
