DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Nanaimo Historical Society Annual General Meeting and Presentation
=0D=0A=

Vanishing Vancouver Island: images of Our Time
=0D=0A=

NHS President, Darrell Ohs, will display and discuss selected photographs from his articles for the Times-Colonist Islander magazine and other publications. The slideshow images depict the explorations of an eclectic range of Vancouver Island subjects and places, many on the verge of fading from our landscape and remembrance.
=0D=0A=

The photographs and their back stories are selected within the range of contemporary history and living memory, and as such, may likely evoke personal and nostalgic recollections of the not-so-distant past on Vancouver Island.
=0D=0A=

Some of the stories were captured on film and in words in the last weeks, or even days, before the subjects yielded to time and progress. We'll revisit, for example, some images of the Diners' Rendezvous (Wong Bros. era). Johnson's Hardware, and the MV Kalakala ferry.
=0D=0A=

The destiny of several other icons of the Island is yet to be determined. In this case we'll look at then-and-now angles of the Martin Mars Flying Tankers and MV Lady Rose, for instance.
=0D=0A=

As time permits, the presentation will also look into the images and provenances of aircraft crash sites, vintage boats, logging and industry, bygone tourist attractions, and more.
=0D=0A=

Audience participation is welcome and expected. Feel free to speak up if you have any additional comments, updates, or anecdotes to share.
=0D=0A=
