The tour takes place in the Old City neighbourhood near downtown. Tour participants will stop outside several houses listed on the heritage register and beside well-known homes that have been demolished. “Heritage homes that we see every day have great stories to tell,” says Aimee Greenaway, Program & Volunteer Coordinator at the Nanaimo Museum. “We will also stop where grand homes from the past owned by Andrew Haslam, Cappy Yates and Robert Dunsmuir were located.” Photos from the museum’s collection will show how the homes looked when they were prominent features of the Old City neighbourhood.=0D=0A=

The tour is recommended for both long-time and new residents. “Many locals ask questions about heritage houses when they visit the museum,” says Greenaway. “Guided tours of the Old City neighbourhood are rare but its homes have a timeless appeal.” The Nanaimo Museum will also be highlighting well-known heritage homes in a new permanent exhibit scheduled to open later in 2013.=0D=0A=
