DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
As March comes in like a lion, so the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra brings its pride of string players to the fore. The NCO presents “The Voice of Music” featuring guest soprano, Eve-Lyn de la Haye to sing Manuel de Falla’s “Seite Canciones Populares Espanoles” (Seven Popular Spanish Songs) – accompanied by the Orchestra. Eve-Lyn is a frequent soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Bach Choir and the West Coast Symphony. These 7 well-known, songs, composed in 1914, all deal with love and courtship, and spring from the rhythms and harmonies of various regions of Spain; Asturias, Aragon and Andalusia.
=0D=0A=

Music Director, Karl Rainer, has also programmed three other works. Unpredictable and innovative Italian composer Francisco Geminiani published “Concerto Grosso Op. 3 No. 2” in 1732 as one of a set of six such concertos. English composer, Ruth Gipps, a student of Vaughan Williams, composed “Jane Grey – a Fantasy for Viola and Strings” (1940) as a tribute to the ill-fated English Queen who ascended the throne for 9 days before being deposed and executed in the Tower of London, age 16 in 1554. This will feature NCO’s principal violist, Sarah Oliver, as soloist. The program ends with one of Benjamin Britten’s early works (age 21); the not-so-simple “Simple Symphony”written in 4 movements: Boistrous Bourrée, Playful Pizzicato, Sentimental Sarabande, and Frolicsome Finale.
=0D=0A=
