DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Sweet is a fundamental taste, and taste describes the essence of the musical offering this fall by the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra. “Sweet Brass: Suite Music” is a program which features the talent of Victoria-based trumpet soloist, Stevan Paranosic. Stevan holds a Master’s degree from UBC and is Principal Trumpet for the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra as well as Acting 2nd Trumpet for the Victoria Symphony: he is an integral member of the brass quintet, Victoria Brass.
=0D=0A=

Stevan will play two contrasting works; Baroque composer, Henry Purcell’s, “Sonata in D Major” and Armenian, Alexander Arutiunian’s 20th Century, “Elegy”. The program begins with Carl Philipp Emanual Bach’s “Sinfonia #2”, in typical 3-movement form (fast-slow-fast), one of 6 symphonies written in 1773 but not published during CPE’s lifetime. Inspired by Cervante’s early 17th century novel, Telemann’s Baroque “Don Quixote Suite” has the form of a French dance suite, portraying the whimsical character of Don Quixote.
=0D=0A=

In contrast, Nielsen’s Late Romantic “Little Suite”, published in 1865 when the Danish composer was just 23, is a flavourful, compact example of Nordic landscape and sentiment.
