Dreams are the unique combination of our experience and our imagination and have the potential to direct our path into the future. For composers, dreams may be the catalyst for shaping musical ideas into wonderful works of art.
=0D=0A=With this in mind, the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra has chosen 3 works to perform on its June program. Anton Dvorak composed his enchanting “Serenade for Strings” in 1875, a work in 5 movements that evoke thoughts of shy sentiment, old-world courtliness, deep expression and the nature of his native Bohemia. Little-known Estonian composer, Heino Eller (1887-1970), born in Tartu, musically educated in St. Petersburg, became a very influential teacher of succeeding generations of Estonian musicians.
=0D=0A=The NCO will play his “Five Pieces for String Orchestra” This short suite blends Baltic/Nordic influences with the Russian tradition: Romanticism becomes enriched with gentle impressionistic overtones, along with echoes of Estonian folk music.
=0D=0A=The 5 movements are: Romance, Dance, Dance, Lullaby and Homeland Tune. Under of the direction of Karl Rainer, the NCO is pleased to feature this year’s Concerto Competition winner, 14-year old violinist, Ella Wyndlow, to perform Vivaldi’s “Violin Concerto in G Minor, Op. 12, No. 1”. Opus 12 is a set of 6 Concertos published in 1729: No. 1 is in 3 movements; a lively Allegro followed by a lovely, somewhat melancholy Adagio, finishing with a joyful Allegro.
