Vancouver based artist Ron Tran employs a wide range of media including sculpture, photography, video, performance, and installation, to create artworks that shift understandings of public and private space, and question ideas of individual ownership. In January Tran moved to Nanaimo to connect with this community, and to develop an exhibition for Nanaimo Art Gallery.
=0D=0A=

For this exhibition Tran will share a mini-retrospective of projects previously created in different international locations, and reimagined for Nanaimo. Many of the works have been produced by or in collaboration with local artists and members of the community including Chantelle Delage, Marshal Hopkins, Denisa Kraus, Mon Petit Choux, Tuyet Anh Nguyen, Denise Tierney, Charlotte Zhang, and students of Art Lab’s Saturday Studio.
=0D=0A=

Artworks will be displayed on a variety of support structures sourced from local businesses including Broco Auto Glass, Coast Environmental, Creative Outdoor Advertising, The Dog’s Ear, Keltie’s Photo, and Space Age Bachelor Pad.
=0D=0A=

Ron Tran studied at Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design and has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Canada, Europe, and Asia. He was recently awarded a Mayor’s Arts Award (Vancouver, 2015), and the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien residency (Berlin, 2014), and his work is featured in Avant-Gardes of The 21st Century published by Phaidon Press.
=0D=0A=
