Jack Semple, a Juno winner who has carved out an enviable career in the film and TV industry, plays the Tallyho Sports Bar on Saturday, June 11.
“The Victoria Blues Society is looking forward to a great night of rhythm and blues, a style Jack Semple is master of,” said society chair, Deb Rhymer. “We are proud to bring this talented performer into Victoria.”
Originally from Regina, Semple moved to Toronto in the late 1980s to become the lead guitarist of popular funk and rhythm and blues band The Lincolns, but left after two years to pursue solo projects, including starring in the title role of Guitarman, a 1994 television movie.
Semple’s recording career has produced ten albums and multiple awards, including:
· national prominence as the winner of the 1992 MuchMusic "Guitar Wars" contest;
· two Gemini Award nominations for soundtrack work on the television series Incredible Story Studio (1999 and 2000);
· a 1991 Juno award for best roots recording; and,
· two Western Canadian music awards for CDs "Qu'Appelle" and "In the Blue Light."
