After completion of formal education, she taught art at public schools, design and pottery as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary, and gave workshops at community centers. Alberta&rsquo;s Minister of Culture presented her with a special merit award for developing and implementing art programs at community centers across the province. She was also instrumental in designing an art curriculum for Alberta junior high schools. Sophia&rsquo;s three-dimensional work was exhibited at an International Competition for Contemporary Artistic Ceramics in Faenza, Italy. Many of her sculptural works in clay are a combination of hand building and wheel throwing. Nature as a superior designer is a constant source of inspiration for her creations. In the field of painting, Sophia explores composition and design in inks, watercolour, acrylics and mixed media. Her experimental approach allows for elements of surprise and discovery. She finds great enjoyment in the creative process of developing strong design elements and finding new ways of expressing common subjects. Each of her paintings is an adventure and any subject, media, or method may become part of the process. Some of her painting styles have developed along the lines of the Abstract Expressionists, and is often influenced by materials and mediums as well as techniques.</p>
