<p><strong>Mark Anderson</strong>, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, has established himself as one of the world&rsquo;s outstanding pianists. He has performed as a soloist with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Nicholas McCegan, and William Boughton. Recital venues include New York&rsquo;s Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., London&rsquo;s Wigmore Hall and Zurich&rsquo;s Tonhalle. Mr. Anderson records exclusively with Nimbus Records with his recordings receiving critical acclaim. Since 2011, he has recorded two CDs of solo works of Hans von Bulow and is currently researching and recording works by the Dutch composer Julius R&ouml;ntgen. Mr. Anderson holds a bachelor degree from San Jose State University and post-graduate degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and the Royal Academy of Music in London where he continued his studies on a Fulbright Scholarship. Mark Anderson joined the faculty at UBC in 2012 and teaches piano, chamber music and piano pedagogy. Concurrently, Mark continues as executive director and owner of New World Music Academy in Pleasanton, California.<br /><br /><strong>Michelle Mares</strong>, who has also had a celebrated international career, has recently returned to her native West Coast after nearly two decades in Europe. As a young pianist, she routinely won top prizes in national and international piano competitions including, the Geneva International, the CBC Young Performer&rsquo;s Competition (twice), the Montreal Symphony competition, the Hamburg Steinway Competition and the Robert Casadesus International. Originally from Vancouver, she is now teaching on the piano faculty at the University of Victoria and at the VCM.</p>
