LOCATION:Gordon Head United Church :: 4201 Tyndall Avenue Victoria,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Annual Seminar hosted by the Victoria Genealogical Society: Last year’s DNA seminar inspired many of you to have your own and other family members’ DNA tested. But we have heard overwhelmingly that understanding the results is another matter altogether. Many of you find yourself scratching your heads in bewilderment at the dizzying array of numbers, names and lists that you received. Or you’ve been sent a long list of “cousin matches”, DNA Circles, or Chromosome Display Tools, but have no idea what they mean or how to use them to find actual family connections. If your DNA results haven’t proven to be the treasure trove of information you were hoping for, then please join the Victoria Genealogical Society for a day of DNA discovery! Three dynamic and knowledgeable speakers will help you understand how to uncover the exciting clues that could be hiding in your test results. SEMINAR SPEAKERS, 2016 BARBARA JOHNSON Barbara Johnson has worn many hats throughout her life, and has worked as a teacher, scientist, and Park Ranger. She joins extensive scientific training with a natural ability to present complex ideas in a simple way, and returns to help us through the complex and exciting world of DNA testing and understanding your results. MERNA FORSTER Merna Forster is an historian and author of the books "100 Canadian Heroines" and "100 More Canadian Heroines", and is Executive Director of the Great Unsolved Mysteries in Canadian History project at the University of Victoria. Merna will share her story of discovering African American relatives in the Deep South through DNA testing.
