DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
With its distinctive Prussian Blue colouring, the cyanotype is one of the simplest early photographic process. It was invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, when he discovered that ferric (iron) salts could be reduced to a ferrous state by light and then combined with other salts to create a distinctive blue-and-white image. Also call the 'blue-print' the cyanotype has been used by artists & was popular with engineers to create blue-prints of architectural drawings.

Drawing inspiration from botanist and one of photography's first female photographers, Anna Aktins, we will use botanicals to create our images on our book bags. The cyanotype process lends it self beautifully to illustrate objects found in the Nature. The emulsion used in making cyanotypes is sensitive to ultraviolet light (UV) only. Sunlight can be used but we will use a UV light box for our exposures.

What to bring:

+ fresh or dried botanicals to use on your bag.

We will also have botanicals available to use but if you have a favourite herb or flower please bring to the class (please note it may not be useable after the class).

Studio + Workshop inquiries please email workshops@luzstudios.com or phone 250-882-4169.

$65 plus GST or register for all four creative outlet workshops: $225.
