<p>Jackie is a researcher with the Marine Education and Research Society<br />Expert on whales, particularly Humpbacks and Killer whales,<br />Focusses on protection and conservation needs of marine mammals,<br />She&rsquo;s an avid diver and known as &ldquo;The Marine Detective&rdquo;</p>=0D=0A=

<p>BC Marine Mammal expert, research scientist (emeritus) with the Pacific Biological Station, and author of Marine Mammals of British Columbia<br />Ford will discuss how orcas rely on a healthy and productive food web in which herring plays a key role, describe the foraging specializations and other cultural traditions of west coast killer whales, and give us an update on their conservation status.</p>=0D=0A=

<p>1-2:15: Dr. Andrew Trites:<br />&ldquo;SEA LIONS GALORE: Why are there so many around Hornby?&rdquo;</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Trites specializes in North Pacific marine mammals and is a BC sea lion expert<br />Professor and Director of the Marine Mammal Research Unit in the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries at UBC in fields of nutrition, ecology, physiology, behaviour, anthropology and oceanography.<br />His research furthers the conservation and understanding of marine mammals, and helps resolve conflicts between people and marine mammals.</p>=0D=0A=
