LOCATION:Shady Creek United Church :: 7180 East Saanich Road Victoria,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
“Part cardiology boot camp – part stand-up comedy!”
=0D=0A=

Victoria's CAROLYN THOMAS will be visiting Central Saanich in April with 90 minutes of her lively and fact-packed presentation. Did you know that heart disease is our #1 health threat, killing 5-6 times more women than breast cancer does each year? In fact, more than all forms of cancer combined?
=0D=0A=

Yet many women still consider heart disease to be a man's problem! That lack of awareness can be a deadly mistake.
=0D=0A=

From risk factors (and how to address them) to women’s unique cardiac symptoms, Carolyn’s talks are based on an impressive background: she survived a misdiagnosed heart attack herself, and in 2008 became the first Canadian ever accepted to attend the Women Heart Science & Leadership patient advocacy training at the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Since then, she has shared what she learned at the Mayo Women's Heart Clinic - and far beyond as emerging studies are published on women's heart disease every year. For example, researchers continue to report that women's cardiac issues are under-researched, under-diagnosed and even under-treated compared to our male counterparts. The cardiology gender gap is alive and well!
=0D=0A=

Carolyn is the founder of the award-winning blog, HEART SISTERS - www.myheartsisters.org (which has attracted over 16 million views from 190 countries) - and is also the author of “A Woman’s Guide to Living with Heart Disease” https://myheartsisters.org/the-book/ (published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2017).
=0D=0A=

A copy of her book will be awarded as a draw prize to one lucky participant during the Shady Creek presentation!
=0D=0A=

Carolyn's writing has been published internationally, including in the British Medical Journal. In 2012, the BMJ invited her to serve as a Patient Reviewer for cardiology papers submitted for publication to the journal. She continues to represent a unique patient perspective at medical conference presentations and community events, and has been interviewed about what she's learned since her own dramatic experience by media worldwide - from The Globe and Mail to The Wall Street Journal, the South China Morning Post, NPR, Huffington Post and CBC's 'The National' among many others.
=0D=0A=

This talk is FREE, but pre-registration is recommended (Carolyn's presentations are almost always full with a waiting list!) Register with some girlfriends and learn more about heart health together!
