<p>The Harbour City Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of Nanaimo&rsquo;s talented jazz students from John Barsby Community, Cedar Community, and Wellington Secondary Schools. The festival gives students the opportunity to perform and showcase their talents for the community in a high-end concert venue.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Each year, the festival welcomes a highly-renowned guest artist. This year, the festival is proud to present a hometown hero: New York-based trumpeter Ingrid Jensen. Jensen&mdash;born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo&mdash;has performed all over the world and is widely recognized internationally as one of today&rsquo;s top modern jazz trumpeters as well as a notable educator and supporter of jazz education.<br /> <br />* Graduated from the Berklee College of Music (&rsquo;89)<br />* Multiple recordings as leader, including 1994&rsquo;s Juno Award-winning &ldquo;Vernal Fields&rdquo;<br />* Taught trumpet at the Bruckner Conservatory of Music (Austria) and the University of Michigan; lectured at the Thelonius Monk Institute High School, The Dave Brubeck Institute, Banff Centre Workshop in Jazz &amp; Creative Music, Geri Allen&rsquo;s All-Female Jazz Residency, Port Townsend Centrum Jazz Workshop, and more!<br />* Performance/recording/collaboration and ensemble credits include Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra, Project O, Nordic Connect, DIVA Big Band, Vienna Art Orchestra, Maria Schneider, Joe Lovano, Terri-Lynn Carrington, Clark Terry, Esperanza Spalding, Sarah McLachlan, Renee Rosnes, Terence Blanchard, Ron Carter, Mulgrew Miller<br /> <br />The night will feature performances by ensembles from each school as well as collaborations with their instructors and Ingrid Jensen. Don&rsquo;t miss this chance to see Canada&rsquo;s present and future jazz talent together in one of the country&rsquo;s premier concert halls!<br /> <br />Note: Ticket revenues go towards fundraising efforts for the school music programs.
