<p>On April 30th nine students and one VIU faculty member will set out for their month long trip to Ghana. There, they will take part in a variety of tourism activities taken place in some of Ghana&rsquo;s rural communities. Not only does the money spent on the tours directly impacts the communities economy, but students are then to provide professional feedback to the tour operators to help give insite on what tourists like or maybe don&rsquo;t like. The group will focus their work in two main areas, Atsiekapoe and Wechiau. These will be where most of the research is conducted. In other communities the group will have a chance to see the sights, spend the day at a children&rsquo;s home, gather supplies to outfit a school, present their findings, and share their experiences via social media. The hope is to make Ghana seen as a desirable tourism destination full of culturally rich experiences and adventure.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>The Luncheon!</p>=0D=0A=
<p>The Luncheon Fundraiser that will be hosted on April 14th, 2019 is an event for everyone! Seats will be limited, however, if not all are full we will be accepting at the door. The luncheon will begin at 12:00 Noon. Lunch will be served shortly after everyone has found a place to sit. The meal will be one inspired by Ghana and is vegetarian friendly! After lunch, a talk will be hosted by Dr. Aggie Weighill of VIU&rsquo;s Tourism and Recreation program. Dr. Weighill will be the faculty member on the Ghana Field School. After her talk, a performance by Triba, a local drumming group, will take the stage to play the African drums. During the event, you are more than welcome to look around at the silent auction items that will be called at 3:00PM. With the purchase of a ticket, you will be automatically entered into a door prize draw that will be called at 2:30PM.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Sponsor a Doll!</p>=0D=0A=
<p>During the event and anytime before the event, we are accepting donations for doll sponsorships! Every $10 donated sponsors a hand made doll to go to Ghana. ALL the proceeds from the doll donations goes to the Hanukkah Children&rsquo;s home in Sunyani. (This is where the group will be spending the day with the kids.) Anything is welcome either before the event or during.</p>=0D=0A=
