DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Local dignitaries, Games organizers, and volunteers will all gather at Woodgrove Centre this Saturday, February 8th to boost public awareness of the Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games hosted here in less than six months. The event will be held at Centre Court beside the Clock and starts at 11 am.=0D=0A=

Activities include displays, demonstrations, live entertainment, cutting the Games cake, and public addresses by both Mayor John Ruttan and Games President Jeff Lott. The public is invited to drop by, find out about volunteer opportunities, and get to know what the Summer Games is all about.=0D=0A=

People will also be invited to try on some Games medals, take a selfie and post it to our Facebook page to be eligible to win a prize!=0D=0A=

The stated purpose of the Games is to provide an opportunity for the development of athletes, coaches, and officials in preparation for higher levels of competition like the Canada Games and Olympic or Paralympic Games. There are 19 sports represented in the 2014 BC Summer Games involving up to 3,900 athletes, coaches and officials from all over the province. The local economic impact has been estimated at about $2.6 million.=0D=0A=

Organizers are seeking around 3,200 volunteers with a wide range of skills and talents to ensure another Games success for Nanaimo. There are many areas to volunteer in, with time commitments ranging from a few hours during the Games to assistance with planning and preparation over the upcoming months.=0D=0A=

The Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games will take place July 17-20 and will feature up to 3900 athletes, coaches and officials from across British Columbia at 19 venues in the mid-Island. =0D=0A=
