DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:<p>Drawing from her prize-winning book <em>French Canadians, Furs, and Indigenous Women in the Making of the Pacific Northwest</em>, historian Jean Barman will highlight in this illustrated talk French Canadians&rsquo; contributions to Fort Victoria, explain their relationships with indigenous women, and argue for their critical role in the establishment of British Columbia.<br /><br />Jean Barman has written extensively on British Columbia history.&nbsp; Her most recent book, <em>French Canadians, Furs, and Indigenous Women</em>, has won the Governor General&rsquo;s Award for Scholarly Research, Canadian Historical Association&rsquo;s Sir John A. Macdonald Prize for best book on Canadian history, Basil Stuart-Stubbs Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Book on British Columbia, and K.D. Srvistava Prize for best UBC Press book.&nbsp; She is an Emeritus Member of the University of Victoria Faculty of Graduate Studies, Professor Emeritus at UBC, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.<br /><br />This will be a special meeting offered jointly by the Friends of the BC Archives and The Association Historique francophone de Victoria.<br /><br />Image:&nbsp; Josette Legace Work, and two of her children, around 1875.
