Fiddle music is alive and thriving in Nanaimo, and there are three teens who want the world to know it.
=0D=0A=Fiddelium is a small group of local musicians who bring a fresh and exciting new sound to the music of Canada’s past. These skilled and passionate young players bring precision, pride, and joy to their performances, and they breathe new life into the traditions of fiddle music.
=0D=0A=This concert will be a celebration of the community of traditional music in our city, and it will be the first time Fiddelium presents their show at the Port Theatre. They will play a wide variety of music, including tunes from the Don Messer Jubilee, newly composed fiddle tunes from across Canada, and even a well-known Quincy Jones tune.
=0D=0A=Fiddelium will be joined on the Port Theatre stage by many local musicians, including a community fiddle group with over 40 members ranging in age from 7 years to 60+. They will also share the stage with Nanaimo’s own Rick Scott, well known across Canada as a highly entertaining musician with a special talent for connecting with audiences of all ages.
=0D=0A=Another feature of this show will be artwork by Nanaimo painter Alex Peck-Whyte, who has created images that will be projected on stage during the performances. Alex’s paintings are in various corporate and private collections throughout Canada, and she is currently represented by the Bugera Matheson Gallery in Edmonton.
