LOCATION:Vancouver Island University Building 355 Room 203 :: 900 Fifth Street Nanaimo,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Born and raised in Tunisia, Monia Mazigh immigrated to Canada in 1991. She was catapulted from her quiet life onto the public stage in 2002 when her husband, Maher Arar, was deported to Syria where he was tortured and held without charge. She campaigned tirelessly and successfully for his release, eventually obtaining an apology from the Canadian government for its complicity in Arar's imprisonment. She documented that struggle in her memoir, Hope and Despair: My Struggle to Free My Husband, Maher Arar, and has gone on to become a human rights advocate and a novelist.
=0D=0A=
