LOCATION:The Bridge Lounge :: 90, 5th St. Courtenay,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The last time the Comox Valley Flamenco Studio gave a performance at the Bridge Lounge, the place was packed. A happy audience, enjoyed fine wine, and, energized by the show, they joined by shouting out ‘jaleos’ of encouragement to the performers – Spanish words such as Olé!, Venga!, Asi se baila!, Eso es!, and so forth. The program will include a brief list of these for audience members to refer to if unfamiliar with the Spanish language. Admission is $12.00 at the door or $10.00 in advance, with advance tickets for sale at Silhouette Dance Shop at 123 Fifth Street.
=0D=0A=

The Bridge Lounge is located at the foot of Fifth Street in Courtenay. Doors are at 7:30 p.m., and the flamenco show begins at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th. Guitarist, percussionist and vocalist Oscar Robles Diaz will be accompanying the dancers, as well as playing a couple of solo flamenco guitar pieces throughout the evening. A number of pieces will feature Brittany Bowman singing to Oscar’s guitar-work and Tomomi’s impressive dancing and palmas (handclaps). Don’t know much about flamenco? Expect exotic rhythms, percussive footwork and handclapping, floating arms and expressive hands with mesmerizing guitar accompaniment and improvisation, and raw, unrefined emotion turned into song. Flamenco is the exquisitely passionate, complex and culturally-rich folkloric music and dance traditions that Spain is world-famous for. It is said to have birthed in the Middle-Ages with the arrival of the Gypsy people in the Andalusian region of Spain - a real cultural melting pot at the time.
=0D=0A=

A musical exchange and crosspollination consequently occurred that gave rise to flamenco which draws from diverse ancient traditions which include Middle Eastern and North African, and in later developments of flamenco, Afro-Cuban.
=0D=0A=
