DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Much work is required as our country moves towards a renewed, nation-to-nation, government-to-government and Inuit-Crown relationship based on recognition of rights, respect, co-operation and partnership. To achieve socio-economic parity for Indigenous peoples in Canada, it is the responsibility of all Canadians to educate themselves on these issues because this is Canada’s history and our future. A National Indigenous Economic Development Board report estimates that closing the socio-economic gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada could lead to a $27.7-billion annual contribution to the Canadian Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Join us to have a conversation on this important topic, first hearing the perspectives of our panel of experts and then engaging in a question and answer session. Panelists • Tasha Brooks, VIU Indigenous Education Navigator and PhD candidate • Dr. Deborah Saucier, VIU President and Vice-Chancellor • Sandra Sutter, Member, National Indigenous Economic Development Board • Dr. Ruth Williams, Member, National Indigenous Economic Development Board • A representative from Snuneymuxw First Nation Moderated by Bryan Webber, Acting Dean, Faculty of Management Please join us afterwards for a catered reception.
