LOCATION:Royal Roads University :: 2005 Sooke Rd. Victoria,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking afternoon with Jennie C. Stephens. Coming to us from Maynooth University in Ireland, Dr. Stephens is a professor of Climate Justice and a feminist climate justice scholar activist. She will discuss key themes of her research and her new book, Climate Justice and the University.
=0D=0A=

Amid the worsening climate crisis and intensifying inequities, higher education can play a powerful role in addressing the intersecting crises facing humanity. Institutions of higher education hold untapped potential to advance social justice and reduce climate injustices. However, universities are not yet structured to accelerate social change for the public good.
=0D=0A=

In Climate Justice and the University, Jennie Stephens reimagines the powerful potential of higher education to facilitate transformative change to advance human well-being and promote ecological health. Dr. Stephens’s research explores how powerful actors obstruct transformative climate action, and why financial innovations are essential for a more just, healthy future.
=0D=0A=

Whether you’re applying these ideas to university settings or other institutions you are part of, this session promises to dive into complex topics that are both timely and important. A panel discussion and opportunity for questions will follow the book launch. Participants include Royal Roads University’s own Dr. Julie MacArthur, Canada Research Chair in Reimagining Capitalism, Jasmine Feather Dionne, Assistant Professor and Emerging Indigenous Scholar, and Dr. Ian Mauro, University of Victoria faculty member and Executive Director of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions.
