DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The next CAVI/CAC lecture will take place on Friday, 21 October, 3.30 pm in CLE A320.
=0D=0A=

Dr. Robert Weir, Associate Professor, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (University of Windsor) will present a lecture entitled: ‘Subtle Shining Secrecies': A Copy of Horace Once Owned By Shakespeare.
=0D=0A=

Scholars of Shakespeare have long known that he read widely and was inspired by what he had read. A 1575 Latin edition of the complete works of the poet Horace, a well-known source for Shakespeare, has come to light in a private, Canadian collection. An analysis of this volume leads Dr. Weir to argue that this edition of Horace was indeed owned by Shakespeare.
=0D=0A=

Robert Weir received his BA in Honours Classics from the University of British Columbia (1990) and an MA and PhD in Classical Archaeology from Princeton University (1993 and 1998). He has been on the faculty at the University of Windsor since 2002. His general research interest is field archaeology, and he has spent part of most summers since 1986 on archaeological projects in the Mediterranean, usually in Greece. In recent summers, University of Windsor students have had the opportunity to travel and work alongside him for university credit at the Greek sites of Helike and Mytilene. More specifically, Weir is fascinated by ancient coins and what they can tell us about the past, and this interest is the basis for most of his publication projects.
=0D=0A=
