Vancouver Island attracts an incredible variety of people, and the Civic Orchestra's first concert of their 31st season will be a wonderful opportunity for our community to experience some of the world-renowned talent that resides in our area. The orchestra's Sounds of Europe concert on November 8th will feature guest conductor, Jim Stubbs, and bassoon soloist, Lauren Stubbs, who currently reside on Salt Spring Island. Both Jim and Laurie have impressive and extensive musical careers, and they now lend their musical knowledge and talents to local ensembles like the Civic Orchestra. The Civic Orchestra is thrilled to have Jim and Lauren's vast expertise and talent to draw from for this performance!

The Civic Orchestra's members are also a hub of local talent, with players ranging from students to professionals, all volunteering their time to the ensemble. The orchestra provides an opportunity for these local musicians to perform a wide repertoire of orchestral music, and also serves as a platform for aspiring soloists, conductors, and choral groups.

Jim Stubbs has performed with the Civic Orchestra a number of times as trumpet soloist for the Annual Sing-Along Messiah concert. He has had an illustrious career as a trumpet player, with performances ranging from Israel Philharmonic Orchestra to Carnegie Hall. He has worked with a wide range of conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Leopold Stokowski. He currently applies the lessons learned from these conducting greats to his own ensembles, Bach on the Rock's Salt Spring Chamber Orchestra and Choir, and the Salt Spring Chamber Players.
=0D=0A=
