URL:http://www.harbourliving.ca/event/celebrating-the-concerto/
LOCATION:Sooke Community Hall :: 2037 Shields Road Sooke,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Celebrating the Concerto begins with Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No.104 (London), the last of 12 symphonies the composer wrote for English audiences and a fitting capstone to his prolific career-long contribution to the symphonic tradition he helped build. First performed in London in May 1795 to great acclaim, this monumental piece in four movements is thought by many to surpass in its fullness, richness and majesty all his other symphonic compositions. The program continues with Johannes Brahms' Violin Concerto in D, Op.77, considered to be one of the four great German violin concerti. Jeanel Liang performs the violin solo, she is the winner of the 2019 Don Chrysler Concerto Competition, part of the Sooke Philharmonic Society’s commitment to encourage the musical development of young musicians from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. “It's an amazing tribute to the dedicated musicians and enthusiastic supporters of the Sooke Philharmonic that we are beginning the 22nd consecutive season of bringing a variety of classical music to the area communities,” notes SPO Music Director Yariv Aloni.
