<p>The Department welcomes Dr. Joy Connolly (President, American Council of Learned Societies) who will present a lecture entitled:</p>=0D=0A=
<p>&ldquo;Exchange: A New Definition of &ldquo;Classical&rdquo; Literature&rdquo;</p>=0D=0A=
<p>This lecture considers the significance of verbal exchange in Greek and Roman literature, including dialogue and declamation, in light of contemporary thought about speech on campus.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Dr. Connolly&rsquo;s research interests are broad: Roman rhetoric and politics; migration in the ancient Greek and Roman worlds; and the intersection between ancient Greek and Roman and modern political structures.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Dr. Connolly published The State of Speech: Rhetorical and Political Thought in Ancient Rome (2007) and The Life of Roman Republicanism (2014), in addition to recent articles or chapters on ancient migrancy, the classical canon, and Rome and modern revolutionaries. Dr. Connolly is the President of the American Council of Learned Societies.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Distinguished Women Scholars Lecture series was established by the Vice-President Academic and Provost to bring distinguished women scholars to the University of Victoria.</p>=0D=0A=
