Some of the songs the CR Singers, along with conductor John Montgomery, and assistant conductor Shelley Roberts, will be performing are the Gershwin brothers’ “Embraceable You” written in 1928 and made new again with a tender arrangement by Jay Althouse, “Hotta Chocolatta”, a novelty jazz song recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, filled with sass and style. Best remembered for its silly lyrics, “The Frim Fram Sauce”, is a jazz song made famous by The Nat King Cole trio, and by Diana Krall who included it in her 1993 debut album.
=0D=0A=The Big Screen provides us with memorable musical moments that remain with us long after the plot is forgotten. The Singers will be performing the iconic vocal jazz “James Bond Theme”, the playful “Pink Panther” theme, “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and, recently recorded by Michael Buble, the theme from “Spiderman”.
=0D=0A=From Canada’s East Coast, “We Rise Again”, originally written for ‘The Rise and Follies of Cape Breton 1985’, and performed by Raylene Rankin, is an anthem of hope for the future and our ability to rise again from adversity and defeat. We leave Cape Breton and travel over 4500km to Canada’s Sunshine Coast, for “Walk in the Wind”. This song, on the album of the same name, was written and recorded to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research in Canada. Lynn Mongomery will accompany the Campbell River Singers for their performance.
=0D=0A=Joining the choir as a special guest for the afternoon is Towa Stewart, pianist. He has won numerous awards and scholarships, including a bronze medal at the 2017 International Music Competition, and currently studies piano with Shelley Roberts.
