DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The History Department at UVic is pleased to a present "A Near Miss with Nuclear War: The Cuban Missile Crisis (October 1962)".

Presented by Dr Jason Colby, Department of History. University of Victoria.

On October 22nd, 1962, in a televised address, President John F. Kennedy announced the presence of Soviet ballistic missiles on the communist island of Cuba, just 150 km from the U.S. coast. For the next four days, the world stood on the brink of nuclear war. Join Dr Jason Colby of the UVic History Department for a talk examining the role of Cold War tensions and the Cuban revolution in causing this crisis as well as the critical decisions and circumstances that allowed for its resolution.

Seating is limited — to guarantee a place, audience members should reserve tickets using Eventbrite. Those without access to the internet can book tickets by leaving a message with the UVic organizer: 250-472-5484. Please record your name and the number of tickets (up to four) that you wish to reserve.

What is a Café Historique? A group of interesting people in a convivial café setting, who gather to hear a talk and discuss new ideas about how the past has shaped our present and future, as well as to drink, eat, converse, meet friends, and have an evening to remember.

Café Historique is a pay-what-you-want event and is open to the public. Please look for the donation box at the entrance; if each audience member contributed as little as a twoonie, the series would be able to cover its production costs!
