Black Angus is about good songs, good humour, good friends, and good whisky. Gareth Hurwood is the voice, the guitar, the poetry, and the passion. One of their regular collaborators is Victoria mandolin virtuoso James Whittal. James has been bringing his delicate stylings to the Black Angus pub experience for the last few years, and was instrumental to the feel of the latest Black Angus recording “My Heart or My Head” made Fall 2016 at Baker Studios.
=0D=0A=On November 12, a rare break-out duo from Black Angus takes advantage of the intimacy at VFMS’ The Folk. James and Gareth have discovered a low-key, easy connection as a duo, and are going to gently re-invent Black Angus’ original and traditional material with just the acoustic pair. These musicians admire one another’s forte and enjoy the results and it shows.
=0D=0A=Black Angus performances take listeners from Vancouver Island to Ireland and back again, fueled by their collaboration and sheer enjoyment of the music. They are devoted to great songs, and are hard to pigeon-hole: Traditional & contemporary Irish, acoustic roots, Americana, West Coast Celtic, blues and old-time are all part of the Black Angus approach to “folk” music.
