<p>Directors Notes: 'You Can&rsquo;t Take It With You' is a large cast comedy requiring a wide range of ages and talents from the actors. Auditions will be one-on-one. Prepared monologues are not required.</p>=0D=0A=
<p>Characters: In order of appearance and a few notes on the characters (Note: the quotes are from the playwrights) &ndash; Penelope Sycamore: Age 45 to 55-An inner passion grips her from time to time. &ldquo;A round little women in her early fifties, comfortable looking, gentle, homey.&rdquo; &ndash; Essie Carmichael: Age 24 to 29-Full of youthful excitement, slightly awkward but not the least bit restrained. &ldquo;Mrs Sycamore&rsquo;s eldest daughter&hellip;A girl of about twenty-nine, very slight, a curious air of the pixie about her.&rdquo; &ndash; Rheba: Black Actress Preferred. Age 20 to 50-Rolls with the ups and downs of life and has adopted many of the family values. &ndash; Paul Sycamore: Age 45 to 55-Husband to Penny (Penelope) quietly following his passion for explosives &ldquo;Mid-fifties, but with a kind of youthful air. His quiet charm and mild manner are distinctly engaging.&rdquo; &ndash; Mr. De Pinna: Age 50 to 65-A convert to the family household, may have been an accountant in a previous life. &ldquo;A bald-headed little man with a serious manner.&rdquo; &ndash; Ed Carmichael: Age 24 to 35-Husband of Essie, head in the clouds, devoted to Essie, his printing press and Xylophone. &ldquo;A nondescript young man in his mid thirties.&rdquo; &ndash; Donald: Black Actor Preferred. Age 20 to 50-The unemployed heartthrob of Rheba&rsquo;s life so they need to match as a couple. &ndash; Martin Vanderhof: Age 60 to 75-The patriarch of the family, other than Alice he is most in touch with outside life, hence his rational decision to leave the real world. &ldquo;Grandpa is about 75, a wiry little man whom the years have treated kindly. His face is youthful, despite the lines that sear it; his eyes are very much alive. &ndash; Alice Sycamore: Age 20 to 25-Loves her family and hangers-on with deep devotion, however she has not followed her older sister&rsquo;s example and has been working outside the home for several years. She has a foot, as it were, in two realities. &ndash; Wilbur C. Henderson: Age 35 to 50-A government employee, officious and no doubt good with numbers but uncomfortable with people. A future Mr. De Pinna perhaps. &ndash; Tony Kirby: Age 25 to 30-Too much money and education has made him yearn for something more and to question the basis of his current life. &ldquo;All in all, a very nice young man&rdquo; &ndash; Boris Kolenkhov: Age 40 to 60-Opinionated and robust, he knows how to survive using his wits. &ldquo;He is enormous, hairy, loud, and very, very Russian.&rdquo; &ndash; Gay Wellington: Age 30 to 45-An over the hill vaudeville girl whose career was over five years ago but no one has told her. &ndash; Mr. Kirby: Age 45 to 55-Tony&rsquo;s wealthy father who inherited his father&rsquo;s money and business. That wasn&rsquo;t his first choice but he has done the family fortune proud and expects Tony to follow in his tightly confined footsteps. &ndash; Mrs. Kirby: Age 45 to 60-Society girl from the good side of town, with the proper breeding and background to excel in upper crust New York. Inexperienced, however, in all other matters. Has never crossed the bridge into Brooklyn. &ndash; Three Men: Ages 25 to 40-Men in black, and just as focussed. &ldquo;G-Men. A quiet and competent-looking individual with a steely eye, and two more just like him&rdquo; &ndash; Grand Duchess Olga: Age 50 to 65-Ran out of Russia during the revolution, another survivor in Moscow on the Hudson. &ldquo;Once a Grand Duchess, always a Grand Duchess. She rises above everything.&rdquo;</p>=0D=0A=
