We present three major acrylics by legendary colour-field artist Claude Tousignant. "Phthalo-Cobalt 1975" is a diptych which the artist describes as "a very special painting because of its femininity, and one that I like very much." Tousignant views "Ovale 1 1968" from his series of six oval paintings as "another way to explore horizontality, giving me a new image and a new way to make colour vibrate." The diptych "en noir, gris, vert et violet 1980" pulses with "the push and pull of dark colours." It is a work that engages the viewer longer, that resonates with the historic depth of the ages. A widely acclaimed retrospective of the artist's work was held in 2009 at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.=0D=0A=

With this exhibition, Winchester Galleries launches acclaimed sculptor Shayne Dark in British Columbia. Five new works "exploit steel's negotiable qualities to construct an intense expression and reference to nature. These sculptures elicit the architecture of nature and appear as if some abstract occurrence happened, which animated them. This condition of suspension, the weight and density seemingly cascading or erupting, along with the high-gloss, vibrant colour, charges the space with energy." Dark most recently exhibited at The Glenbow Museum in Calgary and the Masur Museum of Art, Monroe, LA.
