Arlene Deptuck and Yvonne Vander Kooi team up to offer a rich exploration of place and belonging through storytelling and art-making. Arlene will share ancient Kitsumkalum stories that demonstrate the community's responsibility for the land, plants and animals of Gilak’ya (Robin Town) within the Tsimshian Nation. Followed by a visit to Landfall and Departure: Prologue, we will discuss how artists in the exhibition respond to place, then explore our own personal narratives and ideas of belonging by creating playful, imaginative mixed media artworks.
=0D=0A=

Art Lab will provide the paint, mark making utensils (charcoal, pastels, pencils, markers etc), collage papers, mediums, and glues for the workshop as well as a surface for the mixed media work. We have 11” x 14” canvas panels for each participant. If you would rather work on a larger surface or cradled panel feel free to bring your own panel (available at Iron Oxide).
