LOCATION:The Vault Cafe :: 499 Wallace Nanaimo,
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
The current Adam Cormier quartet could be best described as jazz, but their music is influenced and inspired by many different forms of music. The compositions often reflect the classical music of introspective composers such as Beethoven, Chopin and Bach, or the moody, atmospheric creations of modern indie/folk artists like Patrick Watson and Half Moon Run, but the quartet's music almost always serves as a context for the spirit of collective improvisation found in jazz. This is one of the ways that their music aims to fulfill their shared aspiration to find deeper spiritual truth in life, for in spontaneous improvisation they find an opportunity to tap into the creative forces of the universe, and to respond to the reality of the moment. The result is an aesthetic that is pleasing and uplifting, full of the subtleties of authentic emotion and beauty. Simon Millerd (trumpet), Dan Reynolds (piano), Adam Cormier (drums), and Conrad Good (bass) have been playing together in Montreal for the past 5 years, but mostly in different combinations with other musicians. This coming together reflects a long-time wish of theirs to form this particular group.
