LOCATION:Twin Beaches :: 377 Berry Point Rd. Gabriola Island, V0R 1X1
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:
Jeff Molloy was a man, a visual artist, a musician, a lover of music (especially Neil Young), a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend, a neighbour, an Arts Council Board member, a community icon, a bit of a ham, and a visionary. If you knew Jeff, you knew all these things to be true. If you didn’t know Jeff you have the opportunity to meet him through his artwork at “A Spirit Never Dies”.
=0D=0A=

The show will feature the available works of this great Canadian artist. Some pieces will be familiar, others you will discover for the first time. Kathryn Molloy, Jeff’s wife, has assembled a team to share his legacy with not only Gabriola, but the world. A new website has launched (jeffmolloy.ca), which will feature the work in the show, as well as pieces that have found their place in prestigious portfolios, museums, and homes across the planet. If an original is not in your budget, but the art makes your heart sing, giclées will be available for sale on the website.
=0D=0A=

Jeff’s practice focussed on encaustic painting and assemblage. The work was built from found objects, sometimes purposefully aged, that came together to tell a story. From a railroad spike to the finest of cheesecloth emblazoned with powerful imagery, each piece was thoughtfully chosen and assembled to take on new meaning. The themes in Jeff’s artwork carry considerations around Identity, history, and spirituality. You will encounter Canadiana with a definite measure of humour, where other pieces will stop you dead in your tracks, as you absorb the gravity of what Jeff was trying to convey. Prolific is the word to describe Jeff Molloy, as he was a very disciplined artist and kept long hours in his studio at Gallery 401 and all the studios he inhabited before moving to Gabriola.
=0D=0A=

The Gabriola art scene has not been the same since Jeff earned his wings and many long-time Gabriola artists will agree his presence, energy, and mentorship are missed. Join Kathryn and her family to celebrate this incredibly rich and diverse human being, who left a definite mark on the Canadian art world and spend some time getting to know him through the jewels he left behind.
